An Exceptional Environment
Parco Nazionale della Val Grande, established in 1992, is located in the heart of the province of Verbano Cusio Ossola, among craggy crests and solitary summits. It is the largest wilderness area in Italy, within a stone's throw from civilization. A unique valley, where nature is slowly regaining its own space, where every step you take is among endless woods, clear waters and deep silence. It is an environmental sanctuary, to be visited with absolute respect. However, Val Grande also means history: the long tale of a mountain civilization told by the places and the people of the villages surrounding this area among Ossola, Verbano, Val Vigezzo, Valle Intrasca and Cannobina.
Following the trails in Val Grande, you will discover the signs left by men during the past centuries, when the valley was a destination for shepherds and lumberjacks: you will be fascinated and admired by the traces of their hard and poor lives, which bear testimony to their great capacity to adapt to such a harsh and inaccessible territory. Even those who are satisfied with stopping on the threshold of such a wild area, in one of the surrounding villages, will have the opportunity to feel the "sensations of wilderness". For Val Grande is not just a Park, but a valley that can convey great emotions.
