Snow in Val Grande: Advice for Hikers

( 27 May 2010 )

The Park Authority informs that also this year, because of the prolonged presence of snow on the northern slopes, it is recommended to choose your itineraries with care.

The "Classic Traverse" Malesco - Premosello still presents difficulties during the climb from Val Loana to Alpe Scaredi (from Cortenuovo, over one meter of snow). Scaredi bivouac is nearly out of firewood: you will find a limited firewood supply in the building next to the bivouac.

Snow and residual snowslides can be found during the climb from Alpe Serena to Colma di Premosello. Colma bivouac is out of firewood.

The entrance to Val Grande from Scala di Ragozzale or from Basagrana Pass is not recommended. There is still a lot of snow, with risk of snowslides and avalanches, especially in the afternoon.

Also Mottac and Bondolo are nearly out of firewood.

There are no problems on the southern slopes of the Park, in the area of Verbano (Cicogna, Ompio, Piancavallone) and between Colloro and Colma di Premosello.
